And they came for the 105th |
It all started in 1896. Burtrum, located in the heart of Minnesota, was a booming lumber town. A new cemetery was needed and the Burtrum Bean Bake was born to raise money for the new "Moses Dane" cemetery (Moses Dane was a Civil War veteran). The war veterans baked the beans underground in large kettles. The beans were served along with homemade noodles with chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, rutabagas, rolls and pie. Now, 105 years later, the menu and the Bean Bake continues.
